CAPC Corps Sacramento Achieves

Sacramento Achieves is an after-school program designed to enhance and expand after-school programs in 17 low-performing schools in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District and the San Juan Unified School District. CAPC Corps Youth Development Coaches will provide enrichment activities to children, as well as recruit and manage volunteers.

Research indicates that a student’s consistent after-school program participation results in greater attachment to school. Academic and homework support are insufficient alone to build a connection between youth and school. In order to facilitate a desire to succeed, programs must include enrichment activities such as dance, sports, etc. CAPC Corps Youth Development Coaches will assist with recreation activities, responding to student interest. Literacy coaches, that will be teachers from the school, will link the school academic program to the after-school activities.

Sacramento Achieves Performance Measures:
  • 900 students will receive youth development services;
  • 70% of 125 core students (students participating 60 or more days in the after-school program) will show an increase in at least one area of youth development assets;
  • 80% of 125 core students will show an increase in at least one area of leadership skills;
  • AmeriCorps members will be trained in a comprehensive curriculum for youth development coaches and will demonstrate proficiency on the Youth Development Training Curriculum;
  • Students who participate in the after-school program will show increased learning as measured by state standardized tests of language arts and math;
  • 85 volunteers will be recruited for on-going activities, serving 1,700 hours; and
  • 220 volunteers will be recruited for one-time activities, for a total of 1,100 hours.
